The title says enough; I just wrote a 5 page research paper about spoons. Lord. Thank god that’s done.

Bought flights home for Thanksgiving. Leaving NYC on the 24th, arriving in Duluth that night. I hope some of you Ashland folk are ready for a black Friday shopping trip (I sure am). Returning to New York from Minneapolis on Monday, the 30th.

This morning I had class, I was late and when I got there we were doing some sort of in-class writing thing. Social Lecture has quickly become my least favorite class, the lectures suck and the discussions would be great if it weren’t for Matt Robb’s ridiculous writing things and quizs. oh well.

I’m at the New York Historical Society now looking at a few old books on spoons and cutlery for a paper I’m writing for department seminar. These books are amazing, seriously. Sometimes you forget how lovely written word and print can be, then you page through a book from 1884 that has relevant information for today and you remember.

Thomas Pink was giving away free “custom” dress shirts today. Sara and I waited in line for about 3 hours before managing to get measured for a shirt. Unfortunately, “custom” in this sense just means someone measures your neck so you have the “right” size. Of course, as you all know, I’m a tall skinny guy so a normal size will not fit. Oh well, I have a free 15″-neck button down white poplin shirt being FedEx’ed to my apt for free. We’ll see how it fits, I’m sure it wont.

apple, you’ve done it again.

Yesterday, Apple released a slew of new products: redesigned Macbook’s and iMacs, an amazing new multi-touch “magic mouse”, and updated Mac Minis. They are all so good. so so good.

i die. bananas.

Since Apple released the new products, I got a super discounted iMac for grandma and grandpa. Finally, they’re part of the Mac world and can get rid of their silly Vista machine. Ehnee, Sara and I went to a few apartment sales yesterday which were fairly fruitful. We found a le creuset cast iron frying pan and copper bowl, among other things. perfect.

The Apple situation with going back to Minneapolis seems to be working out. I’m going to be done at the Apple here on the 23rd of November, so I’ll be home for Thanksgiving! Best Buy better be ready for us to take it over on Black Friday. LCD TV = on my radar.

We cooked dinner at Ehnee’s the last few nights, which was so good. Oh how I miss cooking, trying new things, using nice pans, etc. Tuesday we went to Saks with Ehnee to return some stuff then to J Crew to return a pair of shoes I ordered (I got a different size in store a few days prior). We braved the Whole Foods at Union Square (chaos) then went back to Ehnee’s and made dinner. I whipped together some cranberry lemon chicken and couscous with pines nuts and cranberries. We had some fresh-out-of-the-oven brownies and ice cream for dessert.

so. good.

Last night Ehnee and I went to an apt sale, much like garage sales of the midwest. She was moving out so Ehnee picked up some good stuff for her kitchen and I got my mom a barely used coach bag that is just her style. Super cheap, everything. I made simple lasagna with an additional spinach and tomato layer that turned out really good. Silvia and Sara came over too, it was quite the tasty dinner.

Today I had class in the morning then came home and cleaned for multiple hours, at least the apartment is livable now. I met Sara at Ehnee’s and we had some leftover lasagna for dinner, I think it might have been even better today. Yum.

That’s all for now, nothing else too exciting happening. Still working out school/apple transfer details, but that should be figured out soon.

Chance encounter with Bobby Flay today, neat! I was walking home from work and stopped to listen to a coffee talk going on with Katie Lee. She’s a food critic that has a new cookbook coming out on the 20th of this month. She’s also know as the first host of Food Network’s Top Chef television show. I was standing near the back, listening to Kelly talk about some of her favorite restaurants in France when I looked over on saw Bobby Flay standing right next to me. I said hi, talked a little bit and got my photo taken with him. He’s a super cool guy, even if he seems a little intimidating on TV.

I skyped with Alyssa and Mar today. Alyssa just got back from a weekend trip to Scotland and Mar is enjoying everything down in Florida. I also facebooked Jack, who I guess was out in Seattle. Allie left Africa a few days ago and is on her way to Mauritius, a small tropical island. I’ve got friends all over the place!

working weekend.

The weekend was work filled, as usual. I worked at Apple on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Today. I can still say I truly enjoy working, so it was a good weekend. Saturday night Silvia (Sara’s roommate) and I went to The September Issue. The movie was fairly good, it’s a documentary on the making of the September Issue of Vogue and Anna Wintour. Other than that, I didn’t really do anything too exciting.

The best part about living in the city is that simply stepping outside the door and making your way around town is entertainment enough. There are (what seems like) an infinite number of shops and restaurants to discover. I recently found an extremely cute thrift store that has mounds of both used and unused vintage NYC postcards, Murray’s Bagels, and Roasting Plant Coffee Company to name a few. Magnolia Bakery is also a favorite of mine, it’s only a few blocks from work. Their key lime cheesecake is amazing (as are their cupcakes).

That’s all I have for now, keeping the mundane style of my blog alive.
