What a weekend…

What a weekend this has been..if you didn’t know it was our 2nd Annual Camping Adventure, sort-of.

Friday, I got done with work a bit early at 4:00 and ran around town getting the final things together for camping. Around 5:00 Amy, Alycia and I headed out to the campground. Alyssa, Jack, Bonnie, Ali, and Chelsea were already there. The tent (a three tent-connection type one with one main tent and 2 smaller ones) was up and everything was going pretty well. After we had a delicious dinner of chicken-fettucini alfredo, things started to go downhill.

We began prepping for rain as we saw storm clouds approaching from across the lake.  We got most of the food/screen stuff put into cars then we added a few tarps to our tent and went inside. It began to rain while we were figuring out sleeping situations and moving blankets/sleeping bags around. It QUICKLY turned from rain to storm. All of a suddent Amy and I were in our small tent literally holding it down against the direction that the wind was blowing with all of our strength, arms spread out as far as possible. Jack and Asleigh, and Alycia and Chelsea were all doing the same. Rain was literally coming through the fabric of the tent.

After holding out for a good 5 minutes, we decide that it isn’t going to let up and that we needed to leave. So, in one big move we all stopped holding the tent down, grabbed whatever we could in front of us and ran to the cars. We took a few runs back to the site to put out the flaring up fire and grab a few other things and got outta there. We left behind whatever we didn’t grab including the tent, screen tent, propane tank, burner, etc. Between soaked clothes, fallen branches, and relentless rain the drive home (Alyssa’s) was quite the fete in itself. When we got to Alyssa’s we took all the wet stuff outta the cars, figured out what just happened then went to sleep.

Sunday morning came with the news that Ashleigh got in a car accident. Ashleigh and Alycia had to work in the morning, so Ashleigh took Alyssa’s car and dropped of Alycia at her car then was heading back, going north on Ellis. A man in a white Aztek ran the stop sign on 8th St, went through the south lane on Ellis then t-boned Ash. The man had a revoked license, was drunk, and possibly has no insurance. Luckily, Ashleigh only had got a cut up arm. Unluckily, Alyssa’s car is definitely smashed borderline totaled. Amy and Alyssa went to get Ashleigh after she called then came back to the house. After looking at the cuts some more, se decided she should go to the ER since there was glass/metal in a few of her cuts.

While she was at the Hospital, I dropped off Ali and Chelsea at Chelesa’s house then went back to Alyssa’s to clean up the house/do everyones wet laundry. Around noon, the moms (Alyssa’s Marissa’s and Ashleigh’s) came in from the cabin and Ash was done at the hospital so we went out to eat at The Golden Glow. After everyone took showers, we headed back out to Herbster to attempt camping again.

This time we staked the tent into the dirt (after we found all of it), kind of in the ditch, at the campground and it was Me, Jack, Amy, Alyssa, Marissa and Ashleigh. We ended up setting everyhting up then went to visit Mrs. Branham and Mrs. Woodworth. We stopped at Branham’s but she wasn’t home so we proceeded onto Bayfield to see Liz (Liz Woodworth). We hung at her house for a bit, caught up on our lives then stopped at the candy store and headed back to the campground in Herbster.

We got back and started cooking dinner then saw the same sight over the lake as Saturday. The sky was dark, it was super windy, and was raining over the lake. We decided we didn’t want to have another Saturday experience so we packed up all the stuff, and headed to Jack’s cabin in Iron River.

It worked out really well once we got there. We made beef-chicken-pepper-onion-mushroom shish kabobs, corn on the cob, and fried potatoes. It was super tasty. After dinner we just chilled at the cabin. went for a night time pontoon ride then went to be around midnight. Jack woke up early today to go back to camp so it was just Amy, Ashleigh, Alyssa, Marissa and I in the morning. We cleaned up the cabin then headed into town.

Amy, Alyssa and I went to Alyssa’s where we dealt with al the camping stuff/cleaned up the house a bit (Alyssa’s family was home from the cabin). Amy worked at 4:00 and I came home to deal with laundry, and computer stuff and my car and yadayada.

Now I’m just dreading work tomorrow and am very tired. I have to admit, this year’s camping adventure is not going to be one to forget.

I uploaded lots of pictures to the Flickr, here’s the link!

4thofjuly2008_0011.JPG

Yet again, it’s been a while since my last blog. It’s hard to keep this up in the summer as the weeks are filled with work and the weekends with having fun. This week was all about prepping for the 4th.

Tuesday I tried to bring the camper down to the campground for the Buckallew’s and their Friend’s (Lisa, John and Jake) to stay in but there were no spots open. Luckily, an old couple saw me driving around looking for a spot and offered theirs to us if we could go get it the next morning after they left.  So, Wednesday morning I got up around 8:00 and hauled the camper down to the spot. It worked out perfectly; they even put up a little “in use” sign when they left so no one else would take it. After I got the camper all set up down there I headed into work, I made it there around 9:30.

Thursday I took off from the Pizza Pub and a half day at Bretings. Grandma and grandpa were back home from Wausau and so was Sharron (my grandma’s sister) and my cousin Erica.  The Buckallews and their friends were also home. We just hung out at the camper and took a trip to the Pub for dinner. It was very nice.

Friday was the 4th of July. Happy 232nd (I think) Birthday USA!  It was a great day, super fun. We all went to the Parade then had lunch at the camper. Grandma made some SUPER tasty BBQ’s.  After lounging on the beach for a good amount of time I had to go to work. Luckily it went fast, I worked from 5:00-8:00 and it was with Amy so it was actually kind of fun! After work I went back down to the camper then we watched the fire run and fireworks. Even grandma came to the fireworks! The works this year were pretty good, a little drawn-out but the finale was great. I’m going to miss that Ore Dock echo; I’m not sure how long it’s going to stay up! After the Fireworks Amy, Alyssa and I met Bonnie and some people out at the Hudak’s for some more fireworks. I mangaged to go to sleep around midnight, I think.

Saturday I got up and The Buckallew’s Friends were already gone and grandma and Rhonda had the camper all cleaned up. I drove down to the lake and picked up the camper then brought it home. It was so great having that camper spot for the 4th, it worked out perfectly! After I got ready, I met the Buckallew’s and we went down to Buddie’s for lunch. We walked around downtown for a bit then Jack, Alyssa, Jake (Alyssa’s brother) and I went out to Jack’s cabin to lounge around on the pontoon.  We sat out on the lake for a bit then came back in and Jack cooked us some dinner. He made me a steak, which was actually pretty good. I haven’t ate a steak in a longggggggg time. After Jack’s cabin I came back into town then Me, Mutty and Amy drove out to Grand View for their fireworks. They are always so good, and it was no different this year. We met Alyssa, Mar, Allie, Josh, Ben, Mary, Jasmine, Brent and Brendan out there. After the fireworks Amy, Chelsea and I went to Allie’s cabin for a bit for some fire-action then headed home. I got to bed before 2:00 I think.

Now, I’m sitting in the Minneapolis Airport waiting for the fam jam to land from Seattle. Hopefully they had a good time, according to their blog it seems like it! I headed out of Ashland today around 9:00 then stopped at my apt to drop of an amazing counterstop/storage thing that grandpa made for my kitchen. Now I’m just waiting at the baggage claim for them to arrive, after this we’ll probably stop at Rosedale Mall then head back to Ashland.

P.S. I uploaded some pictures to my Flickr, here’s the link.

A New Blog?

Jacks Cabin_0076.JPG

As you can see, this isn’t the usual link! I’m thinking about slowly moving from my iWeb/.mac blog to this wordpress one. I decided that I want to be able to update my blog on my phone, or a computer besides my laptop and I can’t do that with iWeb. So this is just a test…I haven’t really played with the design much yet but it’s very customizable so that’ll change, I just want your opinion on switching. I believe that this will be considerably faster loading as well.

Onto my life…Yesterday (Saturday) was a glorious day. It was very warm (above 80!), just the perfect day. I got up around noon and left the house at one. I love the weekend for that reason. Alyssa and I walked to Buddy’s to have some burgers then to Hallmark for a graduation card and The Black Cat for a gift certificate. After our walk we went back to Alyssa’s and kinda napped/lounged around, then got up and went for a little adventure to the Oredock to see if the giant metal door was open and..it was! I was so pumped, I climbed under the chain fence then walked down the oredock a bit and got the picture that I’ve been wanting for quite some time. I’m not if it’s exactly right, so I may try to go again but I’m just super excited that I was able to get inside of the Oredock. After that great little find, we met Bonnie, Alycia and Amy at Stacy’s grad party.

Around 6:30 we got ready to go to Jack’s Cabin. Alyssa, Bonnie, Alycia, Amy, Chelsea (Mutty) and I drove out to the Iron River cabin where we met Rissa and Ashleigh. It was a super fun time, we went out on the pontoon as soon as we got there then went up to one of the cabins to mac some Mac n Cheese. If you don’t know about Jack’s cabins…it goes like this. He has 4 cabins all right next to each other on a lake near Iron River. They own a whole bunch of beach and then a peninsula that juts out into the lake where there are horseshoes, sand volleyball and a fire ring. It’s just absolutely perfect, he’s super lucky.

But anyways, we had a fire and then went back out on the pontoon at like 11:30 P.M. It was absolutely perfect. We just floated in the lake, watched the clear sky filled with stars and listened to Dashboard. We all realized how lucky of kids we really are. Not many people can just do that if they want, a lot of people will probably never even experience anything like that, it was so perfect.

I uploaded some pictures on Flickr from the cabin and one of the Ore dock pictures, so you should definitely check those out. Here’s the link. Other than that, I’m just super happy that it’s the weekend, too bad I have to work tomorrow 😦

Q. What do you think of this whole blog moving thing?  Is it faster loading?
